Hey, isn’t that Cannon Beach? And coincidentally, I just had myself a bottle of the Ninkasi double red ale. Quite nice, and the product line is getting more available up this way.

Bailey’s Taproom, the Horse Brass, and Apex are all clear winners for pubs, to me. The Hawthorne Hop House would be a great alternative though, as is Roscoe’s and the nearby Beer Bunker (which is small but offers a lot of different glass sizes so you can try more stuff.) Widmer has a brewhouse (and I think does tours too) which often offers at least one beer that they don’t bottle. Deschutes does good stuff but their place is expensive and I’ve never seen it anything less than crowded. If you’re OK with a notch-above-divey atmosphere, the Agenda and Lucky Lab are both good, very Portland-y places. My local would be NWIPA, a bottle shop that offers some a small but solid tap selection and some vittles.

I’ve heard about Pelican before. I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to visit a lot of breweries. My plan right now is to check out one in Portland (I’m thinking Hair of the Dog) and definitely Fort George. If I can fit in another one or two I will. I’ll put Pelican on the short list though.

Have a great trip! If you make it to Pacific City (near Astoria) check out Pelican. They are a really solid brewery. If course, Portland itself can keep a beer lover happy for years, let alone days.
